I see right around 4%, its a bit snug but the deal sure works. With a lower slip % the car might want a steeper gear though..........its a balance act, but one that's just as important to get the car down the track as an engine's power output is important as well.

Nick if you doing the math off the hose , that number may be correct if your running a tight NOS converter.........

I wouldn't think you could achieve a slipage rate less than 0%???

You guys are forgetting an important factor.........tire growth.
1-1.5"+ on a 28 or 29.5 tire at 150+ mph......not sure on a W tire

Slip me a 10
Hey Rick,
What does your converter flash stall to?
Just curious.
To get a respectable stall and (maybe) a decent efficiency I had to go to a 10" converter.
After I re-jazzed my 514 a few years ago, I was on a mission to get a converter that would stall at about 5200. My engine was at peak torque at about 5000, so I thought that it would be good. A tight 8" was 5700+. I ordered a new 9" and it came out 5600.
I sent it back...for tightening, and ended up with 5500. I ended up trading it back to BTE for a 10" Top Sportsman converter. It was precisely 5200.
The 605 has between 9% and 11% of actual slippage (RacePak) right at the 1/4 mile mark with the same converter. That can vary with tune, wind and other unknown factors.
I plugged my numbers in to the TCI calculator and it says 10.37%, so it must be pretty accurate.
Mine is 4.30 gear - 33" tire - 7200 RPM @ 149MPH.
Just for reference. Maybe this information will help.
Thanks,
Keith

Re: Torque slippage question
The Toyota core S98 unit is pretty bad ass, kind of in between a 9" and a 9.5, allows use of the good internals an 8" uses.
The harder I spin mine the harder it locks up, a 7400 rpm shift will rip your head off lol.
I want to say this is the same style unit Blake ended up with after 5 tries lol. Doug uses one in the Banana as well. They are not cheap but the converter is no plce to skimp, especially in a car with glide.

Re: Torque slippage question
Hey, Rick.....I just took my first peek at this thread. Are you sure of 4.30 ratio you're putting into the calculator? Just wondering, as I recall that chunk you got at the Bash was a 4.33. Dunno how much difference it makes, but did you ever do an actual tooth count? FWIW
