Crank snout length ?? Empty Crank snout length ??

Post  wowens July 29th 2010, 8:56 am

Does anyone have a photo of the long snout crank end with balancer and no accessories bolted up. Need measurements also from back of balancer to timing cover.

Have an opportunity to buy a long snout engine but want to make sure I can get it in the hole

He's not asking what he can oreder, he's asking what the legnth difference is to see it it will fit in his car.......must have a good deal on a regular snout crank

You can have the regular snout cut down to boss Length if needed.

Thanks Randy
That's what I need. I have been offered a sweet deal on a complete 598 engine that is new, but has the long snout and I don't have a long snout to measure for comparison. I run a external oil pump on a front motor plate and am trying to decide if I can make it all work since my current set up is the short snout crank before I buy this thing.

you can always pull the crank and have it modified if the deal is too good to pass up.

Correct. Adney is doing one for me now. Regular snout Scat 4340 with several options. Short Boss snout, knife edged and reduced diameter counterweights.

i have the long snout with pump mounted on motor plate, but.... when i ordered my pump , i had the mount plates set back in the middle of the pump to make it all work. you might could just change the mount plate location on your pump...

where is this measured from? timing gear face to end of snout, or journal to end?

how long are the OEM spacers used on a long snout 429/460?

I measured from the front snout where the timing gear presses on to the end of the snout, without the timing gear....Lem may know the actual length of each spacer....
