Are you covering this with a big plastic bag when your not working on it? An oily block is a HUGE dust magnet!!
I use the big yard waste bags.
Sounds like it's coming together nicely for you. Be rumblin before you know it!!

Thanks, I'm covering it with a big industrial trash bag. Cylinders get dust spots in it when I'm cleaning the other one's to get the pistons in. I don't know how much the dust will hurt it if I turn it over like that. Hope not too much.

You could run some green masking tape over the assembled cyl's, just need to make sure any oil is off the deck.
Your attention to detail will pay off!! Keep it up.

I was going to but all I have is duct tape right now. I might put that over it so it at least has something. I need to get a picture of it now. I got that painters eye, it comes in handy a lot of times.

One thing I noticed was that a couple of the main caps were hanging off the saddle about 1/16 of an inch and were flush on the other side. Is that normal?

Justin.
If you want to toss that "TRASH BAG" out, I have some great engine bags I get from work. Armor guard, super heavy plastic, with rust inhurtitor...
Just a thought, I have many, many, many bags!

Take your Dad with ya, and get him out of the house.
BTW, where is your cam?? That should always go in first. Then the crank wont interfere with you installing the cam. Also, that extra cap material wont hurt a thing. Its the centers alignment that matters.

Cam is very protected under my bed.
I was going to wait so the lube isn't dripping off or gathering dust. I don't know, it wont hurt to wait until I am ready to put the rest of it together.
How would the crank interfere with the cam? I've changed out cams quite a few times and the crank never bothered it. The way I was told to center it was basically to rock the crank back and forth and tap the #3 cap with the hammer (plastic hammer) on the sides.

Heads, valves, and springs are in. Heads are a little rusty and I guess I'm going to take them back then he will show me how to assemble them and check the tolerances.
And I was JUST thinking "man if I had my heads I could get this thing together", then dad called and said he wanted me to get some stuff out of the truck.
It was nice to see them again, but they seem like they're a little lighter
Maybe I'm just so much stronger now from moving all the parts around in auto?
