Personally, I wouldn't let one of those dog bone things in my shop.

i dont see how you could give up any hp with a gear drive but i'll gain some if that's the case. Laughing i'v ran one of those sorry dog bone pos in my car for 200 passes at least with no problems at all.i'v heard a lot of trash talk about them so i just put a chain back in mine this time.high rpm is a problem i'v been told but mine saw 7500 a lot and had no problems, lucky i guess. The one I have has been installed but never run. I installed it on the engine (while on the engine stand) and went about the task of adjusting the valves. As I turned the engine over, it would lock and not allow me to turn the crank any further. It felt like a piston had hit a valve (it hadn't). It kept doing this as I went through all the valves, locking up multiple times. To satisfy myself that the gear drive was the problem, I slipped it off and slid on a Ford double roller chain. I went through the all 16 valves again with no problem, and rotated the engine forward and back many times without issue.

I then slid the chain off and put the gear drive back on. Same troubles came back....couldn't get more than a third of a revolution at a time without it locking up. I put the gear drive back in the box. That engine ran hundreds of passes with the chain. It's still together.

I'm cured.....It's either a chain or a belt drive for me. I have both.....Oh, yeah, and a dog bone in a box.

I've always read that the NOISY gear drive is better than the quiet one. Better timing I think, I just remember that you get more power from it. Could be wrong... Neutral I wonder why they do crap like what maverick said, I always thought they were supposed to be good. Glad I got a double roller FRPP one with a bunch of keyways.
