need a little help

Post  342g on August 15th 2010, 1:47 pm

What makes the brake peddle feel like you are shoving on a rock, the car stops good, but the peddle is hard as heck to push, only time it is a major problem, is when I'm stageing, have to be real careful, or you will double bulb, or go in too deep, any help appreciated..Harold

The hole in the pedal that the rod (that pushes the piston in the master cyl.) connects at might be in a bad spot. Which lets say if you had to push the pedal 3" for full brakes, with the hole in the wrong spot it could make you have to push only 1" for full brake pressure. It changes the ratio, there was an article about re drilling it but I can't remember where on here it was. That might not be the problem though, you understand what I'm trying to say though right?

Has it always been that way or is a new problem? Pedal ratio and M/C bore size it what effects pedal pressure. A larger M/C bore increases pedal pressure and of course a shorter ratio also increased pedal effort.

Rick, they have always been that way, I let a guy drive my car last night at thornhill, he said they were way too hard to apply, but I guess I'm just use to them, by the way, it went a 6.007, with his light butt in the seat, it was real bad weather, very hot, and humid, thanks for the reply.

Harold do you now what brake proportioning valve you have on the brakes I had to change mine on my 69 one time after i put the disc brakes on the front my padel was twice as hard as it should have been until I changed it out.Don't know if it is your problem or not just something you may want to check.

i dont know your car, full chassis or back half or?,but if it's just had a manual swap done it could be the stock pedal for power brakes causing it.like has already been said, the ratio is to blame i'd say. Smile

Its a full tube chassy, everything is after market, I have a little trouble double bulbing, the guy that drove my car for the first time, said it is because the brake is so hard to apply, guess I will have to have it reworked.
