Best way to check quench ???
I tried checking my quench, I know the depth mic. is good. I tested it on the deck a couple times, but when I check how far the piston is in the hole I get some weird numbers. I asked for it to be zero decked but I'm not sure if it was. 10 or 5 thou was shaved off the deck though, but I was getting like 16, 18 thou in the hole
So what would you say is the best way to check it? Keep turning it over (very slightly) until you get the smallest number?

Set up a mag base w/ a plunge indicator on the piston & turn the crank with the piston going up until it stops
Then measure with your depth mic or use the plunge indicator like a surface gage (measure the step)

EDIT-Thanks for the help.
I'll wait until I get my cam degreeing kit and use the dial indicator from that and my depth micrometer.

Yeah - just turn the mag off and use it like a surface gage if you don't have one. Zero it out on the deck and slowly move over to the piston top while keeping the mag base square & on deck

Okay, thanks. I'll have to wait a little bit until I get the degree kit. I want it but I'm working on AT the machine shop to pay off the machine shop bill so I can't get it right now. I'll have to check my funds, call my people, and have my people call the people at summit

Save a few more pennies and hit up Lem for the Jomar kit... I hear it's way better quality than the Scummit setup... with better service to boot

Any idea on how much that would run me? I was going to get this one, I want a bigger wheel for obvious reasons.

When you check the piston to deck, make sure the dial indicater is dead on top of the wrist pin. That way piston rock wont get into your measurement.
