Hey D. I said it before... It doesn't have to look good to go fast! Paint adds weight.

My vote is to sandblast it, throw some salt on it and let mother nature take care of the weight reduction!

I am no scientist and don't know the chemical stuff. All I know is I have a 40 year old John Deere tractor that the wires are painted and they still work fine. It also sits in the rain, drove through mud, dust, dirt, and so on for 40 years. I believe your garaged hot rod would be ok with painted wires. Just one crazy farmers opinion.

"He said" Reason being, paint sprayed on the new wiring will / could make the insulation on the wires brittle. No way I can get both done right now (paint and wiring) and make it to KY in may.

If I only do the wiring I can make the bash in May with one ugly bad azz mustang!!

Keep in mind that I'm very anal about doing it right. If there is the slightest chance them new wires are going to get damaged because of the new paint, Then it's getting painted first!!!

If that were true then evey body shop in the world would have to remove the wiring from every vehicle they repair. Been doing it 41 years and have never seen or heard of any such thing happening.

I'd worry more about the wiring looking like crap than the effects on the insulation. Again thats what tape is for................ Wink
