9" small end bearing housing....to big end
I have a small bearing 9" housing that I would like to put big size bearing ends on it. The housing itself has the tapered tubes. Is it possible to put the large bearing ends on it. What I'm trying to do is run 33 spline axles and the brake backing plates I have are for the big ends...

If you buy the Strange large late ends. They are only barely a 1/16" thicker on the flange than my original stock ends. Waste of money in my opinion.

Buying new/aftermarket housing ends is fine, but there's nothing wrong with re-using the stock 9" housing ends in a lot of racing applications. Just slice off the old welds & factory inner seal housing with a lathe (only remove the inner seal housing if aftermarket sealed/O-ringed bearings are going to be used) & weld them back on. The factory housing ends are pretty stout, it's the thiner wall tubing used on some 9" housings that's less than desirable. Shoring up thin wall housing tubes is another good reason for adding at least a back brace.

When I narrowed my big bearing housing I reused the ones that was on it.Mine was out of a 74f100 I cleaned my ends up using a drill press chucked a cut off wheel for my die grinder and went to work on them took awhile but got them cleaned up.When installing them in the housing you will have to clean the inside of the tube up where it has the weld seam.I used my die grinder with a beburring bit then went back with sanding roll and buffed it out where it fit snug.Hope this helps.Yes if you have a lathe it will be faster but all I had was a drill press in my buddy's shop. When I carried it to be put in the jig for welding it back up it was perfit could have been just luck though.
Yes I believe Al has a jig to weld them up with I had talked with him before I had mine welded.
