Flexplate question

Post  Larry Williams on October 13th 2010, 9:48 am

my 466 motor in the 1968 mustang has a C4 tranny. Will I be able to use the same flexplate when I install the built powerglide trans?

You should be able to do that with no problem. Just make sure you have the convertor spacing right so you don't hurt the front pump. With the convertor bottomed out in the pump, you should pull it out of the pump 1/8"-3-16". Then add spacers to take up the space of the distance between the convertor and flexplate.

It depends on the flex-plate. ie. Stock flex plates do not have the right bolt pattern for the powerglide style converter. You will also need some type of adapter in the end of the crank to support the nose of the pg converter which is not the same size as stock ford.

I am a little confused but that is pretty normal. If you use the JW powerglide ultrabell and flexplate you will have no isssues. Your original question was whether your C4 flexplate would work. If your C4 flexplate is the JW 93001 deal then yes, but a C4 ultrabell will not work with a powerglide. cheers Laughing
