Re: Guess who is credited to designing the transbrake?
I had checked this out when I started shooting my Powerglide buildup video. I asked Carl Munroe (TSR) but he wasn't sure. I remember first seeing about it as an output shaft/slip yoke version sold by Lamb Component operated with an air piston. I think the first internal unit I saw for sale was an ATI. I did see the Wiki post but I'm pretty sure that's crap. I've looked through at least two books on McQueen and neither said anything about a transbrake. So I'll still looking for the answer.

Steve Griner told me he invented the first transbrake while I was at his shop a few years ago and I believe it.
The guy is a genius who should have patented every invention or idea he has ever had.
I bet some drag racers from the era like Bob Glidden or Warren Johnson could shed some light on this subject.

It's a five hour dvd set and I have it for $39.95 shipping included on US sales from my web site. I'm offering it at a discount until the end of the year if anyone is interested.

Is there section on the performance glide? Also how about the C4-C5 deal. I had a guy do a tranny for me (c5) 6 times with a TCI brake in it and never made it down the track more that 4 maybe 5 time because it felt like 2 and 3 where dragging. The last time it has 4 runs and of core it was over heating, I pulled the pan and the amount of Grayish looking soot what shocking..

My Powerglide dvd is all about a drag race buildup. My C4 and others are for stock builds but I talk about HiPo upgrades. Any two of my titles are $49.95 total (US sale). I just posted this but it didn't go through for some reason. For more info find my web site badshoeproductions.com

Griner was my shot...
I seem to remember talking with Steve Griner at a drag strip in Indiana in about 1986 and heard the story about his development of the internal brake. He is a sharp guy....

Re: Guess who is credited to designing the transbrake?
The Wiki article says........
"McQueen also designed and patented a bucket seat and transbrake for race cars"
That doesn't necessarily mean he invented/patented the first bucket seat and/or the first trans brake. It just means that he patented a seat design & a brake design.
As for the genius Steve Griner, his high dollar TH-400 brake & anti-cavitation front pump designs are about the only ones on the market that help a TH-400 trans last in big powered super ultra-high 9000++ RPM combos. The normal 400 transbrakes & front pumps on the market have line pressure problems at the real high RPM levels burning up clutches from cavitation killing line pressure.
