My 98 Mustang build

Post  98-9.0Mustang on November 25th 2010, 7:21 pm

Well I thought Id get to know everyone a little better and start a build thread...what better way right?
I picked me up a really nice 98 Mustang v6 car. It came with a new front Cobra bumper cover, really clean 02 GT interior,8.8 disc brake rear end, and new 17" bullit wheels with new rubber. I also got a bunch of parts with the car witch I have since sold some off,and now only have $300 into the car.lol.
My plans are to put it into the 9s-8s in a 1/4 mile when its all said and done.
I already met and talked to the wonderfull Lem Evans!! What a guy!! I had so many questions for him I didnt know where to start. But we did come to a 521-545 depending how much I bore the block. I also want a set of aluminum heads but they will have to wait till next year, cause I only have the founds for one or the other right now. And with winter here I will be getting laid any time so I gotta watch what I spend. So I plan to build it with iron heads for now. Just so I can get it in the car and get the car finished too. Good plan right??
But I still need to deside what heads, intake, carb, and so on I need to get. The cam will be a custom ground one from Lem of course.
What do you guys think?? I want to do this right instead of waisting money...

I will post pics later.
thanks,
Don

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!!

Heres a couple pics after I got the car home and washed it...and has my Ranger wheels and tires on it.

And heres some as it sits now

Here is my new AJE K-member. I will be running foxbody control arms to narrow the front up a little bit so regular wheels dont stick out. I also have front coil over conversion comming.

And this is a photo shopped pic of what it will look like...

And here is my daily driver 87 Ranger with mild 306/AOD, and the mustang wheels...

I like that Ranger. I've got one just like it with a 4banger. I was wondering how much trouble the V8 swap was? Looks like you whooped the firewall's azz a little..Cool car too king

Dan, I did a ranger 5.0 swap years ago and it wasn't to big of deal, the oil filter relocation was the Biggest PITA in the swap. They have kits avaliable and theirs no real fabrication required.

I like the idea. I'd like to find roller motor and a tranny. Kinda leaning towards an AOD instead of a stick.Everything I drive has a stick now, besides my race cars! affraid king

Yeah I bought the truck with the motor in it. There was no reason to beat the firewall like the other guy did... Only modifaction need was to the heater box. Had to notch it out for the valve cover to clear.
And yeah this is a roller motor,its a 86 HO 5.0,.030 over,f303 cam,rpm air grap intake,holley 650DP. With a AOD still need a stahl convertor though.

The best part about the Ranger is NO expects it to have a V8. The look on peoples faces when it starts up is just priceless lol. Then you get people who try to beat me at the light and they get smoked by a little Ranger. I am waitting for my custom tag to get here, it reads "HUH" lmao

How well does a electric water pump work on the streets? Would it keep my car cool? Or should I go with a aluminum hi-flow pump? Just dont want to spend that much money on a water pump if it wont keep it cool on the streets.
Thanks!

I got some more done on the car. Got the K-member mocked up. I also got the foxbody a-arms,inner and outter tie rods mocked up.Everything went together pretty good too. Now the dang wheels wont stick out on the front with regular wheels. I put a 245/60 on a 7" wheels with a 1/4"spacer to clear the caliper for mock up. Once I get my Convo Pros it will be good to go.
My oil pan and coil overs will be here next week... Then I can get the motor mocked up!! Cant wait for that!
Heres a coupls pics...

Yeah I checked with the local chassi shop, and well they said $4500 for a 8.50 certified cage affraid
But I found a nice prefit cage kit for under $800. Since I can weld I will weld this one up....This is the one I am thinking about going with.

I went and picked up my motor tonight. I got a D1VE block and a set of D3VE heads.
He also had a complete 69 429w/C8 heads out of a t-bird. Should I pick that one up too? Or just build my motor with the 460 block? Not sure what to do ,please help!!
