Are the main caps different for the different casting numbers. This a 2 bolt d0ve-a. Also, if I find some caps from the same style block will they most likely need an align bore and hone? Ideally I would like to just hone.

If they are not the caps that came on it they will need lign bore and honed I would not try to run it with out having it aligned

I planned to stay two bolt if it would work with just a hone. If it needs bored and honed, might as well do the 4 bolt. I need to find front and rear caps either way, and those billet ones are expensive.

Keep the caps that came with the block and correct [if needed] with a hone i.m.o.
If you change to 4 bolt caps the story will change.

yes i hit the wrong spot

I would not try to run it with just honing I tried that years back on a 302 with so bad results

I bought the block without any caps. I know what you guys are thinking, And I feel pretty stupid, but I just totally missed them. I guess I was busy checking the rest of the stuff, but anyway seller now says the are lost. And I'm looking for some. Evil or Very Mad

Save the Dove A block for later when you step up and put the after market caps on it. For now just get another stock block the are plentiful and cheap.

I know how that is the 302 I did for my exbother inlaw was missing one main cap he couldn't find so we got one off another engine and honed it good the crank lasted about 100 miles and spun that main bearing.That the reason I say you need to have it aligned

eliminator has all 5 caps in the set,435 for cast,455 for steel.some have said the cat or procomp caps work fine,the machine work is the most important thing.

What are the options for aftermarket front and rear caps? Or should I run factory front and rear with the center billets. I'm going to build this one right the first time. Forged 4.14 eagle crank, h-beams. Building a pump gas iron head engine to run at or above 7k.

i may have a torn up block with some caps. i know i got 3 center caps from a splayed conversion. if we can't find anything to work i know i got a pile of blocks to choose from. i seen where i missed your call yesterday. if you get a chance ring me up tomorrow.

I have never seen him post here. I really doubt it will hurt him for folks to know his ways. I'm giving him till tomorrow to email. text, or call me back. I'm partly to blame here, I bought some parts that turned out to be junk. I was going on his word. I like to think all people are like me. If I tell you something you can believe it. This wasn't the case with him..
