Wow, this is going to be a sad story. With China's safety record this is bound to be a safe thing.

Yea no kidding, but being such a national pride focal point, i'd think they would pay special attention to the system as they do not want and public embarrassment from it.

Yup. That'll be one spectacular news story. Just don't let AMTRAK get one.

It has been said that we could easily build that type of train here in the United States however, the quality of the tracks won't be able to handle that amount of speed. It would require a whole new infrastructure of tracking.

another problem is Americans are not accustomed to utilizing public transportation like other societies, our lifestyles have spread us out to much.

It is not our lifestyles, Canada and the US are just 50x larger then all those little countries in Europe so it is pretty damn expensive to have a train running everywhere. Hell just Texas is 5x the size of England.
