Hello from germany

Post  Sinner motorS on January 14th 2011, 6:21 am

Hy!

My name is Stefan, I am 26 and came from Heidelberg germany.
I am driving a 30 model a roadster with a 429 in it.
This engine is the reason for my registration here.
I am looking for every information I can get about it, because it is a little bit difficult in german boards.
I own this car nearly since 2 years and maby this or next year I want to rebuild it.
The information of the seller was, that it is out of a 1971 Torino and that it is a 429CJ engine.
But I am not sure.
So maby someone of you can help me identifying this engine exactly.
Therefor I have some codes of the intake, block and the nameplate.

So long!

Stefan

Hy!

Here some codes:
Intake:
DOVE*9425*B
F4 007

Block:
DOVE-A

Nameplate:
*29 71 7
3 Ford K811 J
* is probably a 4, but I can not read it

Hope you can find something! Smile

Sorry, pic wasn't uploaded!
But there is a link to a german board, where I wanted to check the codes with some pics.

The DOVE Intake Indicates that you have Small Port Non-CJ heads, What are the casting numbers on the heads?

You probably have a Thunder Jet (Regular) 429 / 460

The DOVE-A 2 bolt Block was used in regular and CJ engines and the same casting number with 4 bolt mains was used in some CJ and all SCJ engines.

Unfortunately I can not find the code of the heads at the pictures I have made.

The car stands far away at the barn of my mother, so I can not take a look at the heads at the moment.

So that means it is a regular 429cui?
I think this engine has about 360hp and 480 torque?

Thank you so far!!!

Yes 360hp standard 429 engine, nothing wrong with it, they run great. It's just not a Cobra Jet Motor.

CJ motor has DOOE-R Heads and a QuadraJet DOOE Intake Manifold.

Your heads will probalby be DOVE-A, B or C. or might be D2VE or D3VE's if the motor is not origional.

cheers !
Thats the information i am looking for since 2 weeks!
Are there some more thinks I should/could know?

The reason for my interest is, that I thought....a real CJ which is completely original, should stay original....
because this engines are selten rare...but in fact I don't even know how rare the different versions realy are.

but now I know that it is a regular 429 wich is called thunder jet?
an engine where it is not a shame to put some after market parts in it???

For a street rod application the Thunder Jet Motor will work fine. With the right parts and work you can get well over 600hp from it in a race application, 500+hp in a street application is pretty easy too.

You have a good base to build a hot street or race engine from.

it will be the third engine i rebuild. i boght even a book how to rebuild a big block with some special tips to not only put a holley carb and a edelbrock intake on it....

but i think there will be many questions even with this boock Smile

Yea I was there many moons ago, my home base was in Bamberg, but I was, on the 7th army football team, and we were on about every military base over there.
