Re: Turbo Charging a '94 F350 7.5L
Another question I'd consider:
How long will it take to pay for the modifications being considered? If you spend $2,000 on a turbo setup, custom tune, gears, ect, ect, to improve your fuel mpg by 2 mpg (10 mpg to 12 mpg), it will take 43,000+ miles @ $2.75/gal to break even on the venture. This doesn't account for the potential increase in fuel cost (higher octane?), increased maintenance costs (oil change interval, spark plugs, ect), or the risk of undertaking a project that could ruin a perfectly good engine in a heartbeat.
Have a good day!

I would think, most that add chargers to their 460's are just looking for the extra towing power, and if cruise mileage stays the same it's just a plus..............
My 2002 Lightning gets about the same as a regular 1/2 ton pick up with the same rear gears, and it has a super charger on it. It is driven everyday and runs 12.90's through the quarter on street tires.
Turbo's and super chargers are cool..........................

I rode with Blake to the Columbus Swap Meet last year in his truck. I've never been so impressed with the way anything ran as I was his truck. That thing is scary fast and the excelleration is just way BADAZZ. You'd never know it was bad at all under normal driving ,but when that thing starts that silly whistling...you'd better be hangin on and pointed the right way.We passed a car on the interstate running about 70 MPH by the time we were around it we were about 110MPH in just a few seconds. That's just a super set up. I was Totally impressed with that SVO

I would still like to here what it would take to be able to add say two t-3's and an intercooler to an efi 460 in a truck. It's a speed density deal. Would just some way to add fuel be all you need?

Blake,
my buddy put a Turbo on his F-350 dually with a 460 and mounted it underneath the truck. He kept the speed density deal but had some gremblems with it.He wasn't sure if it was from using the speed density setup or the turbo was to small.I you're interested i have some pictures of it on his truck i could e-mail you.He took the setup off his truck and was trying to sell it.
Later Mark.

With the powdered metal rods, low eights are as fast as you need to go. NOS is good in boosted applications, more fuel and air and good for cooling the air charge (inter-cooling)
When it needs a refreshing I will up grade the rods and pistons and put on the new TFS -R heads.............

I remember reading years ago where someone put a turbo on a 86 Mustang 5.0 with speed density and ran into a similar problem.
He ended up putting a 1-way vacumm valve near the map sensor.
I assume it was to prevent the map sensor from "seeing" a boost condition but allow the map sensor to work normal under cruising high vacumm conditions.
That one thing has stuck in my head about speed density and boosted engines.
