8.8 Posi issues
The mav. has an 8.8 posi unit and its staying that way for right now. Sometimes when I'm in the burnout box (usually where it happens, very seldomly does it do this on the street) it will do a one wheel peel. Any idea what causes this? Could it be the fluid level or the fluid itself? What's an easy fix for this if there is one?

I haven't, but the previous owner said he put it in. It was fine but then it started acting up more recently, I haven't checked the fluid yet. In storage at grandparents house, but I do want to check it. Is there a special additive or rear end dope to put in it like a LSD style axle?

Justin, the 8.8 takes the usual gear oil and a friction modifier, or a pre-mix of both. If it's not too old a fresh change may help.

If you are mostly drag racing the car you might want to have the rebuilder set it up real tight by shimming it. I added shims to my wife's Roush's 8.8 when I swapped in 4.10's. That's about the best you can do for a trac lok it this application.

Re: 8.8 Posi issues
Mainly it is on the street in the summer, I do take it to the track twice a year
But I want to go more often. Later down the road this thing is going to be TOTALLY reformed in to the baddest drag car around these parts
But until then, I don't think I'll rebuild the 3rd member just yet. Soon when I can get it back in my own garage or when its warmer at least, I want to check the fluid. Maybe pull it apart and completely refill it. Depending on the cost I could rebuild it while its apart, just curios what would cause this so I can plan another project.
Thanks guys, I will take in to consideration all of the things said above.

needs rebuilt, it is an 8.8, and not a factory 8''?
