I ran just a front plate on the Banana, with a regular trans mount in the rear. But I wasn't bouncin' through the mud either. I would run both in a mud rig.

Probably a very obvious question, but how is the increased length added by the midplate taken up? Does the torque convertor just not slide in the trans as far? or are there spacers for the flexplate? I've always wondered how that added thickness of the midplate is handled.

my midplate came with a spacer to put beind the flexplate, but you still need to check and make sure your convertor clearance is correct

When I ordered my converter I told them what thickness mid plate I was using and it came all ready to go with no spacers behind the flexplate. My tranny guy said if I need ed to take up slack, thin flat washers between the converter and the flexplate would also work if I didn't want to pull the motor again.

The red bronco has 1/4" aluminum front plate and 1/8" steel mid plate. We still run the factory trans mount and it seems to be a good setup.

Forgive my ignorance on this guys. I've never been really paid much attention to using plates before but probably will when I start building a strait frame this summer. Does the mid plate take the place of the factory block plate? And how are they mounted to the frame? Just a piece of angle with a bolt hole welded to the frame and a bolt through them?

Is there anything else that needs to be taken into consideration when running plates like front accessories and such?

Thanks,
Dave S.

Where can I get an 1/8" mid plate that is as wide as the frame rails on the 80's-90's trucks? I believe 39-3/4" outside to outside.

S&W racecars has them. Or you can do what I did and go buy a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate, lay your old 1/8" plate down as a template and cut the new one out.
