Raccoon in my chimney.......

Post  bigblockfox468 on March 7th 2011, 8:20 am

Heard noises coming the fireplace on Saturday then again yesterday about 6:30 pm. I went outside to look and waited about 10 min and a head popped out of the chimney. Went back inside and told the GF "yep we got a critter" Evil or Very Mad . So I went and and opened the damper and looked up....he's moving around, not stuck. Now I have to figure how to get him out SOON before a litter comes along.

Any suggestions? Don't want to do a fire cause what I read on the web is there are shelves in the chimney and they'll move up and stay on a higher shelf til the fire is out. Don't think shooting him in there is good idea either. I don't want him to die in there. Then I have a dead carcass with odor.

I'll probably have to call a critter control company to remove and take him away.

Wished I would've capped the chimney when I first got in here. Had alot going on at that time....new house, interior updates, yard work up the ass, engine being built, work, life in general.......just venting and pissed Mad

I would think that a small but smokey fire would run him out...like some newspapers or a couple of magazines. Not much heat, but he'd have to come out for air.

Don't coons like grape koolaid and watermelon? Bait em with that stuff. Razz once you get em out get some of that really coarse metal mesh junk. Not sure if its considered chicken wire or not, put it on the chimney with a brick on it. That's what we put on ours and nothins gotten into it. Or I could come over, tie a rope to my foot, you can lower me into the chimney and I'll get the critter out! Laughing
