lunati or scat forged crank

i am leaning towards a scat but i am kinda wondering about a lunati

i used the scat 4340 bottom end kit in my 552 build.

Placed side by side, I doubt you could tell which was which.

I think for what you're intended use is Jesse, the Scat will do you just fine... And it's not gonna drain your pockets... There's a guy here that's using a Scat forged unit in a BBC with N2O and he's been running 1200+ HP with no issues...

I have a Lunati in mine,but I have used both without issues.

Ive been told they are the same core. And ONLY ONE plant in China spitting them out....

Till you look at Eagle cranks then you'll swear there's two places over there making crankshafts...

The Eagle stuff does have a different "look" No doubt about it

so far i have had a scat 9000 in my old 501
and was very happy with it
and than a scat billit in my 530
also very happy with it
so i am happy with scat
i would assume the lunati is fine also
but after talking with adney and advice from ya all
i feel confident with a scat 4340 forged
altho i would liketo get another billit
a forged should work fine fine for me and i plan on keeping it under 1,100
even with a new top end in the next few yrs

The Scat , RPM and Eagle forgings are not the same .

Don't be sorry, I heard the same thing. I woulda thought the RPM and Scat cranks were forged in the same place but if Lem says they're not, I believe him..

Man those eagle cranks are ugly... IMO (lol, don't wanna hurt nobody's feelers)

As can be seen the Eagle [top] and the Scat [lower] sure do have a different "look" . The RPM like Bruno has in his 562" is different yet...although much prettier than the eagle unit . The RPM forgings are sold under several brand names so there is a degree 'sameness' out there .

What about the extreme racing cranks? Are they something that is made by scat, or eagle ect.

SCAT does them. Also, Winberg, Callies, Kellog, and many others. These are NOT run of the mill forged cranks...most are billet and cost $2000.00 to $3500.00 depending on the options.

What about the ohio crankshafts? Pro and con....

No comments on this I take it buy the no comment that i should stay away from it.

Well, all I'm going to say about this is that someone I know very well has seen Lunati boxes at the SCAT facility, after meandering into a "restricted area." The older Lunati stuff was american-made...don't know about all of there offerings today.

So I take it from what you Engine building Guru's are saying then, That the Scat all 4340 forged rotating assy. Crank and H-beam rods with some Probe SRS Pistons ..wouldnt be a bad way to go for a middle of the road set-up... Being half are cost more and half cost less..

Who do we know that has the best deal...on the scat rotating assy for a 533"er....I had run across Coast high Perf... and they showed some all forged set-ups with the probes for $1779 free balancing and shipping ? But they say the vendor is Probe ? I thought they only made Pistons..

And the TMD (The Mustang Depot) I'am not sure I would buy anything from there? Hawkk parts and some other one ??

LOL...well Chuck..I was completely un aware of that...Of course I didnt look at the phone numbers or addy's ?? I'am a little thick headed some times... I guess I was too interested in the specs and prices than anything else.. and I probably still wouldnt have connected them ?

Maybe I should stay away from the computer while on pain meds ? .....
