Another Magazine Build

Anyone seen this one yet? Seems lacking but no slouch. Obviously, could've used A-heads and been much cheaper with very similar results.

The Problem is the out of box heads, a good port job and the proper camshaft and that engine will wake-up. Need's TI Valves too..........

One can pick away at will at all of the stuff that could have been done, small carb, no porting, Ti valves, etc., but 915hp and over 800tq is not too shabby for what it is. Sure wouldn't take much to make it better though, and it would have only been a couple grand more $$$$.

Putting it into perspective it 1.53 hp per CID, nothing spectacular and below average considering the parts.

good compairison is Sherrys 598 with A460 heads.......@ 1.75 hp per CID more inline with what I'd have expected for mildy preped C460's and a single 4.

Also shows how good the wet flow is on a set of C460's......... 2.41 hp per CFM......

But like your saying schmitty, its easy to critisize.....

Who actually designed the C heads for Ford, and what were they originally designed for? Cool

Ford took the Yates SBF heads and Sized'em up to fit on a BBF.

This engine was FAR from tuned with a small camshaft and only a few pulls to help it.
With "out of the box" unported heads this engine is about right where it should be. The Kasse ported heads they speak of in the article would add another 100 horsepower at least.

Edit: 380 CFM intake flow @.700" valve lift is how those heads are delivered and shows nothing about their capabilities.

Why don't you build one of your own with "out of the box" A460 heads...? Then you can build it however you want with none of the "fu fu shit".
Oh, that's right, you simply wish to criticize other people's choices and make derogatory, suggestive comments or hang on the coat-tails of other people's testing without spending any of your own dollars.

Prove me wrong ... I'll be very interested to see the testing results you put forth here.

I did build a motor with out of the box Ahead at 11.7 comp 557 motor , I was just curious what the extra cubes and the free comp ratio would do to power out put . I would rather have seen some thing done that would be of some use but thats not normally what happens with these mag builds ,although there have been some good ones . (when was the last time someone used unported c-heads for a budget build ?)

As touchy as you are about me critisizing a magazine build makes me wonder if you like building a high budget big cube under powered excuse for a ford motor !

It was of use ... to them.
They didn't build it to suit your priorities or expectations; just theirs.

I am simply saying that if you want to satisfy YOUR priorities then you should do it. Don't expect somebody else to satisfy what you want.
