Anyone ever heard of converting a 9" semi floater to a full floater?

No but I bet it wouldn't be to hard to do with a few tools, skills, and a d60 donor.

Isn't that pretty much what NASCAR runs?

I've seen a few done on Jeeps. What application are you looking to do it for?

On my 77 F-150. I'm going to run 44 " tires and I want to keep the 5.5.5 bolt pattern. It's just a dailey driver, but from what you guys have told me, I at least need a full floater rear end.

I've got 44's on my mud truck and I don't think you would have any trouble with a regular axle as long as you put in good aftermarket axles. I'm running 40 spline axles in mine and I would think I'm abusing what I have pretty badly and havn't had any issues. I know a couple guys running 35 splines axles with 44's and no issues there either. Cool

The full floater on the rear axles has to do with the full float D70's or newer 10.25/10.5's being slightly stronger than the semi-float versions of those axle. If you are running strictly a mud truck, then the upgraded shafts on a 9" will do you fine. If it's a trail/road truck, then you might be better served to swap to a stonger axle.

Another option if you have a D60 from a 3/4ton, you can get 5 on 5.5 hubs to put on the D60. Might be cheaper than the conversion for the 9" or aftermarket axles. Cool
