I'm pretty sure you'll still have to use a RPM switch on the 6.

Or if the tach has an external shift light you can manipulate it to work.

It needs to be wired hot. Meaning that you have power to it with the ignition on. Then when the rpm switch reaches it limit, it kills the power and lets the shifter work.
