Antifreeze alert
Guy's,some probably have knowledge about this ,but I hadn't so I will pass it along to the ones that haven't. My nephew has a 04 6.0 diesel work truck,he decided to change the coolant in the trucks system. He didn't know he wasn't suppose to mix the Green coolant w/gold,and it Jelled really bad and almost damaged his engine. He had it flushed out but was told by the local Ford dealer not to ever mix the 2 together.
My ? is,What year did Ford start using the Gold in the trucks?

like in 02
make sure he dont have other "6.0 problems" , i see a lot of trucks come in with all kinds of mixed coolant and never one gelled from that...... but again dont mix it. if he uses the green make sure he adds the vc-8 additive to it. The gold doesnt use the additive.

2002 F650/750 built in Cuautitlan from 1-28-02
All Econolines built from 7-15-02

Re: Antifreeze alert
Too many coolant choices nowadays. I work for an engine supplier they've gone from green to orange to purple and who knows how many in between. Can not mix them, they will gel or corrode and eat away the cooling system internals, can't mix OAT with HOAT, yada, yada yada. Now I'm seeing a new freon 1234Y. The 134 machine won't work for the new stuff. $8k for a new evac machine. They say all the coolant and freon changes are safer for the ozone but disastrous on the wallet

And nobody with the balls to call it either. Honest HVAC Tech.'s in business pre 1992 know, and warned the public, so oh whell!bigblockfox468 wrote:Too many coolant choices nowadays. Re: Antifreeze alert
I use the purple in my 01 with 7.3L. Got it the first time at a HD truck part store. Now a couple of chains carry it. It's already got the additive (VC-8? didn't it used to be called FW-16?) mixed in that the green coolant trucks need. Works great. No issues. Truck is a little over 12 years old, had the purple for 8+ years.
Thanks guys
I may add the coolant filter to catch the sand if I see anything come out when I drain it..
