i need to rebuild my 5.0 Empty i need to rebuild my 5.0

i have a 93 f150 5.0 4x4 with the push button automatic it has over 190,000 on the motor.i think the motor has a cylinder that is down on compression (right back side) under a load it will spark knock no matter what grade of fuel you put in.timeing is were it is suppose to be according to the manual from the factory with 87 oct and i have to use a verry cold plugs.

anyway the question is do i get a set of gt40 or the gt40p heads to help out the power?i need moor tork so i need a cam recomendation.i am looking to rebuild the bottom end with a .030 over bore nothing special so i can use 87 octain fuel.

Larry our shop builds some 347's and 408's.. Our shop stock car with a 347 and 350 cfm 2bbl Holly dynoed at 410 Hp.. This engine was built around the rules..

Most our street engines use the E-303 cam. We installed Elde heads to GTP40 heads.

The GT40 heads have a relocated spark plugs so some aftermarket headers don't work.

Umm don't go with a Hyper piston.. For some reason the valve relief is within .100 of the edge of the piston and we have nothing but failures.. The computer tune was good but IDK?

We use an adjustable Fuel Pressure regulator and 460 Injectors.. I run the idle pressure to 45 psi..

for a truck application the heads that come on those might be the better choice over the GT40's. I forget off hand but i thought there was a OEM truck head that worked fairly well......for what it is/was
my smallblock knowledge though is limited and probably obscured Smile

I would'nt put that much money in it for what your looking for i would hone it with new rings,new bearings,timing set and a valve job and maybe a little hotter cam like a rv/towing cam it would run better than new and as far as the .030 i would if it is absolutely needed you can buy kits for very little. I been doing 302's since 94 and brought some high milage ones back to life for cheap (enginekits.com) is a good one to look up and as far as gt40 and gt40p its the p that has header issues.And as far as the hyper pistons go i been using kb#116(dome) the (115 is a flat top) for years with all kinds of cams and no problems even spraying a 150 shot of nos.

thanks for the help guys i found out that i have the E7 heads.i am going to rebuild what i have and go with a rv type cam for moor tork then see how it goes.
