Waste of time. If you need more flow, buy better heads.

It can keep the port laminar air flow closer to the surfaces; if THAT helps, is a personal preference.

Bingo! Same reason a golf ball will fly further than a smooth ball Wink

Read some of the information that Larry Meaux has posted on his experiments with this surface finish it is quite interesting.

"My Dyno tests so far show around a maximum gain of .018% times Peak HP as the typical HP gain from a rough carbide finish everywhere including the Intake Manifold."

I think they meant to say 1.8%, but still, total waste of time for anyone who isn't racing at a national level. The good news is that a rough finish doesn't HURT performance, and polishing to a mirror finish is an even bigger waste of time.....which several of us have been saying for years.

25-30 years ago I read an article of an interview with jack rouche. He stated that polishing intake ports would actually lose hp due to the fuel puddling and running in the floor. He preferred a rough intake port even way back then. I don’t have any input on the dimpling.

Seems like this treatment to the ports and surfaces is mostly for engines that are already max'ed out and the builder is looking for another few horsepower that cannot be found very easily in other areas.

Maybe a rough finish is just as effective. I'm making shit up here... scratch
