Depth of Intake Valve Piston Notch Cut
How deep does the notch need to be cut for 2.20 intake valves in D0VE heads on H612CP pistons? Pistons in the hole approximately .025.
Will be doing this using a bare D0VE head on an assembled short block, head resting on the block with no head gasket. 2.25 cutter.
Thanks.

It is very dependent on the camshaft. The tight spot is "around" 10 after TDC on the intake opening . Don't focus on total lift as the piston is far away from the valve at that point. A good "starting point" is .180 at the deepest point. ( from the "deck"). At .025 down like your piston is .160 would be OK.

Cool, thank you.

So, the cutter resting on the piston, then measure up .160 up the tool guide from the top of the valve guide?

No , the "pocket" depth from the "deck " of the piston to the deepest point.

Re: Depth of Intake Valve Piston Notch Cut
With your modest cam timing the notch doesn't need to be deeper but larger in diameter.
Use the larger diameter cutter head 2.375" to enlarge the pocket radially but not any deeper.

used 2b RHP
