521 with Holley Sniper 4500
I just recently ran my 521 stroker on the engine dyno at Danzio performance. The engine made 720hp and 695 torque. I have listed the specs on the engine below. The Sniper EFI worked very well. It tuned in nicely. I am happy with the power the enigne made. The youtube video isn't of the 720hp run. I have some pics of the dyno figures to post as well.
Scat Forged 4.3 stroke crank

What’s the comp ratio?
Any work done to the cylinder heads?

Congrats, that's a serious street piece in a great looking car. Is this a pump gas build?

Have you had the sniper long? I’m torn between a TBI and a multiport system. Looking for upgrade from carb. It’s a street cruiser. I have CJ heads, and am looking for the least expensive alternatives. Thanks

Well if you are looking for inexpensive TBI is your only option.

The cop ratio is 10:1 and the heads are straight out of the box. I did gasket match the intake to the heads.

Thank you. Yes the Dyno run was done on 91 octane. I plan to throw some boost through the engine down the road.

I dont have it in the car just yet. I have installed 2 other Sniper systems. One was in a 72 Firebird with a mild 383 in it and it runs great. The other was in a 79 Jeep CJ7 runs great as well. Passed Ca smog with it! I dont really have any complaints about the Sniper setups. In my opinion you cant go wrong for the money. On my big block setup and the Firebird we have the Sniper controlling the timing as well. Both systems fired right up on the first try with out any issues. Then you have to put a little time into them and let them learn and adjust certain settings to fit your build and application. Port injection is great, but it is usually more expensive.

What kind of belt/pulley setup are you using? Or was that setup just for the dyno?

The pulley setup is from CVF racing. They sell all kinds of front accessory drive systems for the Big Ford.

My pistons are dished. They are either -36 or -38cc piston. I am forgetting off the top of my head. The CR is like 10:1. The guys at Kaase spec’d the cam setup to run in my car. I am running a Coan Performance converter built to all the spec’s of the engine and car. The converter is decently loose in my opinion but it allows the car to get up in the power band quickly. I recently had a Kaase solid lifter fail on me so I am in the process of replacing the cam and lifters in the engine. I am going to a hydraulic roller setup with a cam that is very similar in specs but with a 110 LSA and like one number different in the duration with the same lift though. I will be going to a sequential port EFI setup instead of the Sniper. Hoping to make a little more power, but if not Oh well looking for a little more street reliability out of the hydraulic lifter setup.
The block is zero decked as well. Converters can make all the difference in the world. What type of stall are you running and rear gear?

ya i think my converter is no good for this engine it is a 2800-3800 stall "from previous owner" my gears are 4.88 but going to change those out as well . not sure which gear yeat car is 3180 without me in it , i am 200
really lifter fail . oh man hope did not damage anything other than cam ? i used kasse lifters too solid roller so wish me luck. did you check you valve lash often ? how many hrs did you run the engine? how heavy car>?what was your best time with this engine ? c6 trans?
my old engine was a 501 solid roller motorsport cam and i had a lifter fail in it as well . cams are hard to find right now solid rollers anyways i am tempted to go too a flat tappet in that engine i know break in is more work but less mantenance .
thanks

one more thing is your intake a 4150 or a 4500 dominator flange on it ?also what was wrong with your efi setup you are running how many hp rateing is it? could you run this setup with a blowthrough tubo setup?maverick172 wrote:forgot to mention what stall do they call your loose converter like 4500rpm or 4000rpm?5000rpmmaverick172 wrote:Nick63Galaxie wrote:maverick172 wrote:nice build . are the pistons a dished piston ? you zero deck the block >? i have a very similar build little bigger intake and bigger cam 272 int 280 exh and .731 lift .727 lift 109 lsa i took mine to the track and does not seem to have the jam it should but i have to run a bigger stall converter just curios on your pistons and how many cc dished they are mine is 10.35:1 comp 38cc dish and i am running the sr-71 heads and have a they are cut too 65ccNick63Galaxie wrote:I just recently ran my 521 stroker on the engine dyno at Danzio performance. The Mafia R intake I have is a 4500 flange. The Sniper 4500 could support around 1200-1300hp and it could do a blow through setup. I went with a real high end ECU instead of the Sniper so I could control the engine better and run Coil on plug, knock sensors, Drive by Wire, etc.
My car is is just under 3800lbs with out me in it. I am running a 3.70 gear with 28 inch tall tire. The car has a ran a best of 7.0 in the 1/8th at around 101-102mph. As for the stall it is around 3500-4000. Coan took all the specs of the car and engine and built the converter. It is all billet like the rebuildable ones damn thing cost me like $2200. My first converter took a shit on the chassis Dyno and caused me to rebuild a brand new trans. The trans is a C6.
As for the lifters I am super OCD about valance lash and kept them to spec. The engine had 4000 miles on it before the lifter let go. After inspection it looks like the hardness on the roller was starting to flake off. I caught it early but I am in the process of tearing the engine down to make sure no other damage happened. My new setup is Isky Johnson body hydraulic lifters and a custom billet roller cam from Comp.

so you are not running the sniper at all . what ecu and efi system you running than ? that allows knock sensors and all such ? is it a multi port system now?
i just heard that hydraulic rollers and the bbf do not go good together but have 0 exsperiance with this .something about the pushrod angle or something if memory serves me ,

Scat H Beam rods w/ARP 2000 bolts
CP forged Pistons
DSS main cap girdle with ARP studs
Kaase Oil Pump
Comp 304BR-8 cam w/solid roller lifters
Comp Ultra Pro Magnum Roller rockers with stud girdle
Kaase P-51 Heads
TrickFLow Mafia intake gasket matched to the P-51 heads
Canton 7 quart road race oil pan
Holley Sniper 4500 EFI w/ Hyperspark Ignition.
What type of stall are you running and rear gear?
ya i think my converter is no good for this engine it is a 2800-3800 stall "from previous owner" my gears are 4.88 but going to change those out as well . not sure which gear yeat car is 3180 without me in it , i am 200
really lifter fail . oh man hope did not damage anything other than cam ? i used kasse lifters too solid roller so wish me luck. did you check you valve lash often ? how many hrs did you run the engine? how heavy car>?what was your best time with this engine ? c6 trans?
my old engine was a 501 solid roller motorsport cam and i had a lifter fail in it as well . cams are hard to find right now solid rollers anyways i am tempted to go too a flat tappet in that engine i know break in is more work but less mantenance .
thanks

No the Sniper has been removed and sold. I have gone with a LifeRacing F88 ECU with a milspec harness. It is a multiport system that I will be going to. The mafia R intake is being converted to multiport. I haven’t heard that about the hydraulic roller lifters. I did not get any longevity out of the solid roller setup. Everyone I spoke to about the solid roller setup said I was lucky to get that much use out of them. My buddy owns Danzio Performance and I had him work with Isky and Comp on my new setup. Hopefully I get some longer life out it.

Is it this one? If so BadAss Ride. If you want me to remove the link, for What ever Reason, that's Cool, just don't quote it. It would be nice if no one else did either. Thanks

Those CompCams solid roller lifters seem to be falling out of favor now with many.
Something like these .937" Bam DLC's would likely hold up better but, you would have to bore the Lifter Bores.
https://vincentperformance.com/shop/bam-b-3010-16-bb1/ If you could even get them now.
As far as camshafts they are all problematic now a days, and aggressive BB solid rollers cams of all makes/models on the street have had problems forever even when parts were USA sourced.
How much spring pressure is your new hydraulic roller losing from the solid?

Nice 1/4 mile times for a big heavy car!!The best my 466 BBF Fox Body ran was a 7.28@100 mph in the 1/4 mile although that was with the 4150 Carb the 1050 Dominator woke it up but i haven't ran it yet with that carb!!

Yeah man that’s me and my car. The lifters were actually Kaase’s lifters that failed and ate up the comp cam. There is another video of the car as well on thecraig909’s channel.
I don’t mind you posting the link to the video of my car at all. As for the spring pressure I forget the numbers. I am still running the Manely springs that came on the p51 heads. Parts quality is definitely an issue nowadays.

Re: 521 with Holley Sniper 4500
I posted your car a while back for another guy here who is building one. Your's sure is Sweet.
That CompCam #715 (34-715-9) you ran is pretty aggressive for a lot of street miles in my opinion.
If you are going Turbo in the future you can make boat loads of horse power with a milder cam.
I would look into lighter springs with a hydraulic roller, that is one of the advantages of using them.
