Victor 2965 vs. Trick Flow R intake for 521 inch SR71?
I have a 521 with SR71 heads heading to the dyno in the near future. Engine has a Victor 2965 since the Trick Flow wasn't available. Since the TF intake is now back in stock I'd like to do a back to back test. I've heard the TF intake is 10 to 15 hp better than the Victor? Is that roughly correct? I'm assuming the engine will make more than 800 hp with the Victor but we haven't fired it yet so we'll just have to see.

From my own testing, the Trick flow carries-on longer in RPM after peak horsepower so, it is much better up there however, at PEAK it is only slightly better than the Victor and worse below peak torque. So, it depends upon what your needs are, as to which one is better for you.
They both NEED port matching.

The 521 made 840 hp at 6600 this morning with the Edelbrock intake and a 1050 carb. We set the timing at 28 degrees. It was using over 1000 cfm so we'll try a larger carb. I have both 1150 and 1250 carbs on hand in the dyno room so we can try one of them. I think we'll swap over to the Trick Flow intake this afternoon and then retest in the morning.
This was our first run of the 521. It makes really good power for a 0.030 over truck block with flat top pistons. This engine makes more power than any BBF that we've tested in the past. We've run various AFR heads, Blue Thunder heads and SCJ heads in the past but this is the first Kaase headed engine that we've run.

Good numbers for a 521. Whats the compression?

Looks to be possible a tick under cammed.
Should peak a few hundred rpm higher with a box manifold

Correction slightly under cammed and you need to get a mafia intake on it

Re: Victor 2965 vs. Trick Flow R intake for 521 inch SR71?
The Trick Flow intake picked up some torque and power. I assumed it would trade off torque for power since it has larger runners but on this engine it just moved the power curve up. The TF intake made more torque and more power and every point on the curve. Not huge gains but engine picked up to 856 hp at 6700. Peak torque was 740 at 5600.
I agree that the cam needs to be bigger. Comp wouldn't tell me what lobes that Kaase is using so I'll contact Kaase and see if they can tell me. I think I'd like to add some duration but keep lift the same so hopefully there are bigger lobes in the same family.
The 1050 carb gave us the most power. We tried a 1250 but it didn't pick up any power. I think a bigger carb would give us more power but the 1250 we had on hand didn't do anything for the engine.
We did all pulls at 28 degrees of timing.
