What would be a average max on HP for a aftermarket(TCI) 176 gear set?

I don't know about exact hp #'s but below are a couple of pics of a BTE 1.76 "Super Set" the gears were aftermarket helical cut. Not TCI, but for years TCI and BTE parts were 99% the same as the owner of BTE previously owned TCI. This set had about 400 1/8 mile passes on it. 150 or so in a friend's 1900 altered w 600 hp sbc and then about 250 in my first dragster with 840 hp 557 at 1850 lbs. It let go at about the 80' mark one night. Zinged the engine to about 8K before the rev limiter could catch it. I upgraded to a 1.80 straight cut BTE planetary from Steve Oldani and haven't had any issues going on 4 years

I've broke 4 helical cut sets (2 stock and 2 aftermarket) with a D0VE headed 466 at 2600#. When I built my first 557, that is when I switched to a 1.80 straight-cut set and haven't looked back. IMO, it isn't the HP level that determines the longevity, it is the shock-load from the t-brake coupled with the bite of the slicks that breaks them.

I was just wondering. My tranny guy said mine was TCI 1.76. He said they would be better than stock only because of age factor. He said they looked great, but if they make it through this season,I will go to a set of 1.80 straight cut.
