What RPM are you using to launch your car? My car leaves at 3600 now with my 514. With the new combo (598) I am getting a new Neal Chance converter so I am thinking about bumping it up to 3800+. Of course I will ask Marty his opinion before ordering the new one. Just wanted to see what everyone else was doing.

I'd say that launch rpm is something that'll have to be determined by experimentation and would depend on a LOT of factors, chassis, converter, engine combo etc. I think Wes Littrell launches his truck at about 5500rpm or so with his 572. His seems to like a launch rpm that's as high as possible yet it doesn't seem to care if that comes on a trans or foot brake....

this is exactly why you dyno an engine to find out where the power band is and where the torque peaks out, so the converter guy can set it up to fit your application.....

It hurts me to agree but I have to. Laughing

We leave at 4200rpm on the turbo car but when we ran nitrous it was 5800rpm. It would stand it on the bumper when we lowered it any. We had a PTC and Chance converter for both combos. The PTC is harder to spool but has very little slippage on the big end and the Chance is easier to spool but has a lot more slippage on the big end. We run more mph with the ptc but the et's are about the same.

We run with a guy that launches at 8000rpm but it is a 302 ci chevy and a jerico trans. Another guy we know has a 632 bbf on a dragster and leaves at 2400rpm and runs 8.90 (on the throttle stop Laughing Laughing ) and he runs a Chance converter.

I am wanting to come up. I have had two people back out on me so if I do come up it will be me and the wife. Needless to say the wife is no help with the car!

I don't think help will be a problem...should be plenty of people more than willing to lend a hand if needed.

Edit- I usually leave at 3800-4000.
