Building A Mean 460...?
My new project is going to be building a mean 460 looking for high hp...since im knew to the bbf scene i had a question on which block would be best for me.. Im going to use a sonny bryant crank and some forge internal and looking to build it into a 632ci monster or whats the highest i can stroke to? and looking at using a dual tunnel ram setup. or maybe single carb havent made up my mind.. what block would be the best for me?

or should i get the 460 from ford racing?
whats the highest i can stroke and for it to be street legal? i herd people stroking pass 632ci? if this is possible what are the sizes that are avaliable for it to be stroked out to?

Re: Building A Mean 460...?
the premier block will go bigger than a ford block.4.700 bore,4.750 stroke is about it,i think after that it gets $$$$$$,as if that aint $$$$$enough.

Re: Building A Mean 460...?
Im no expert (by a long shot) but unless you have a fair size wallet, and this is a street car, my opinion would be, that a 4.5 inch stroke would be the stroke limit before you kinda move to the next threshold of dollars (higher end parts and machine work) . 4.5s fit (for the most part) into Ford racing A460 blocks or IDT blocks with little to no mods... not saying you *cant* go bigger, but your stepping into a realm of more machine work and much more expensive parts.
if your looking for sheer cubic inches, but want to stay at a relatively affordable place, possibly consider 598 (4.6 bore X 4.5 stroke) using an A460 block, or 625 (4.7 bore X 4.5 stroke) using one of the higher end IDT blocks.
what are your end goals? do you have a horsepower number in mind? just want a cubic inch number for bragging rights? A certain 1/4 mile time?

i was originally going to go with a 598 ci but looking for high hp... around the 1,000 mark... so far i was thinking of big cubes plus tunnel ram with 2 1050cfm and some nice aluminum heads like trick flow... what are you opinions?

what end of the opnions do you want the $24,000 or the $65,000 opinion . What amount of dollars you got to spend ? no sense giving the highest end if you don't have itblown460 wrote:i was originally going to go with a 598 ci but looking for high hp... around the 1,000 mark... so far i was thinking of big cubes plus tunnel ram with 2 1050cfm and some nice aluminum heads like trick flow... what are you opinions?

Re: Building A Mean 460...?
if you spend your money like you should and listen to good advice you can have 1000hp at a decent price.big cube's dont always mean big hp,spending big money dont either.

TO KEEP THE COST DOwn,and if you want a big inchenging, id do a 4.500 stroke with a 4.600 bore, this will still be costly, yes id use a eliminator block( a460 blocks are also very strong nothing wrong with them) you dont need a sonnlyb crank, there a great product also, but once again there are other places to spend you money doing this
what is this going in? what are you wanting to do?

The first question that should have been asked along with, compression, pump or race gas, RPM range and desired power?
