Post  B-351 on Tue 21 Jun - 11:01

I wount to change my drum brakes to disc front and rear. 1970 Mustang 3400Lbs 514 drag car. Should run between 127 and 130 in QT. What is a good disc brake kit? Can I use brakes for Crown Vic? Thanks for your time. coloil@yahoo.com

Mine had the factory discs on the front, they were the 2 piece rotor deals............after one needed replaced and getting a price for one I used the spindle, outer tierod and rotor brake assy from a Granada, 35 bucks for a new rotor vs 300 for the factory deal.

We did the Granda swap on my buddies 67 that had drums using the same parts.

The brakes will be fine at that speed but the front suspension gets a little finiky..............

It was off the front I wasn't sure if they would fit but we was going to call the junk yard to the comet so I pulled them and they fit I did have to change the tie rod end the comet carries a bigger tie rod stud. The tire rod ends screwed right on the mustang where the old tie rods were. But on my ranger i used rear disc off a 95 linc.

I have heard the good/bad things said about the Granada spindle/brake swap for years, but never tried to do one myself. Some say it's a "perfect" fit for the old Mustangs. And others say there is some givin amount of geometry problems that show up with the swap cuz the Mustang & Granada spindles aren't 100% exactly the same layout.
