Post  jesse on July 17th 2011, 7:47 pm

i did a new motor this year
i had line's performance do the mach and assy
but i am not impressed with the hp numbers

motor

4.150 stroke
4.500 bore
cam-pistons i had lem do his thing
upgrated to bigger crower lifters
heads are tfs a460
cnc ported from shannons
no flow sheets i bought the heads used
but the guy i got them from said he think they flowed 460 int
qft 1250 dommy carb
comp is 14-1

i hoped to get close to 900+ i have heard his dyno is not a happy one
but 790 off this combo?

I don't know Jesse, that seems a little low compared to some of the other stuff done with the A heads. If the dyno is notoriously low, that would seem to indicate that there is more there than what is being printed on the sheets. When I did my first engine down at Bret Powell's shop he told me that his dyno was always on the short side, and let the customer know that they came to the wrong shop if they were after "bragging" numbers. I would run it and see how it compares to other stuff you pull against before being to judgemental. Cool

didn't Seth have a pump gas 557 a couple yeas ago that hit mid 800's? I'm hoping for 900 with 588 going by his set up and numbers. Pump gas also.

14/1 compression is not anywhere near "pump gas" friendly.

Just put on a dyno and run to check for power that engine is making, is certainly understandable. I have routinely seen a 100 horsepower tuned into a combination on the dyno when being tuned correctly.

If I remember correctly on mine, you tuned about 75hp or so on it before we couldn't find any more.

no 14 to 1 isn't. I was just pointing out what had been done on pump gas. Seth had 11 to 1

Yep,......

It's in my truck. Wink

At Seth's dyno session it made 838hp @6300 / 776tq @4800.

Spec'd out to 10.8 to 1 after the calculations were done.

The engine has since been gone through by Bob "Jet Boat" Hardison. No changes were really made other than bumping up the cam timing. Box stock A460 heads w/ the smaller 2.30 valves, Old school TFS single plane, low rise intake,& 1250 Pro-Systems carb. I didn't dyno it after the rebuild, but I'm thinking/estimating the adjustment was worth 10-12hp.

Ran it @ RT 66 Raceway a few weeks ago and my truck turned it's best time,..... 9.86 @136.5. Weighs 3600 w/ me in it.

The "pre-tuned" runs were considerably less, lol.
