Which pistons/bore size???

Post  Race Ready Fabrications on November 29th 2011, 1:00 pm

I'm trying to decide how much to bore my dove block. Block is already .040 so .060 and .080 are my options. Is going .060 and saving the .080 for a future overhaul the best or just go balls out now?

Which brand piston does everyone like? Charlie suggested I get diamonds from Lem, Ross just as good?

I'd go to .060 if it cleans up and passes a sonic check + do a half fill, save a little for a couple of rebuilds.

Diamond makes some great pistons.

blocks are pretty cheap if u dont have a lot of mods bore the max and get another block for your next rebuild

I prefer Diamond for no real reason,I would go w/.060 because you may need that xtra .020 down the road and besides you won't see that much more from the .020 imo. Lets get as much use from these old blocks as possible. The way we have been scrapping these days, they will be all gone before we know it.jmo

Go for the smallest bore where you can find a ring set. And, if you're making a set, you can specify any size you'd like.

I used the Probe pistons in my 547" FRPP SCJ headed engine..they worked great and have a more atractive price point than the Diamond....I'm a dealer for both.

Probe stuff is great for off the shelf pistons and very reasonable prices, I've used a bunch of them over the years, they just don't do the fancy features , custom stuff or offer domes for BBF's

I have a set of 4.42s that are in my engine now but they can come out, If you want to go 4.44 go for it I just thought I would throw the fact you not wanting to go that big off the bat....I have 5 or 6 sets to chose from... so no biggy for me.
