Went to the track

Post  John Myrick on December 10th 2011, 3:51 pm

Here are the time slips except for one that I went red on. Was at Cecil County Dragstrip for the last TnT of the year. The 1st 2 or 3 the back end was getting a little squirrely on the top end so I dropped the shock position one notch( 1" ) to bring the rear down a tad, seemed to help. The top end charge is there at 130 mph. Now I need to get out of the hole faster. Any opinions good or bad and are welcome. Wish I had video ( was shot) but my videographer( wife)needs some practice also Very Happy
I'm pleased so far. Will be deep into the 10's next year

Thanks for looking,
John

After I learn how to drive Very Happy

The one limiting factor will be the 3500 stall convertor. I'll switch it out mid 2012 for a 4700 convertor

For now it's a street car that see's the track....but it will more likely become a fill fledged race car some time next year

John,
Your time slips look like you were skating all over the place was it cold? How big are those tires? A big converter change I am only changing to 4200 rpm.
When you get it sorted out it looks like 10.0-10.2's are it.
Your car is a work of art that others should want to copy.

Dave, thinks for the compliment. The temps were in the low/mid 40's. Tires are 32x14.5. Yes the car was squirely. I used the TB for the last dew runs and the rear seemed to like the "hit" better than leaving on the footbrake. The other thing that will hinder the launch is the mustang II front suspension. I'll be talking the chassis guy about different shocks/springs for the front( don't know what's available and I know I'll be changing out the rear coil overs for some AFCO's or Strange units over the winter. Next year I'll be getting on it harder and getting more seat time to get used to the car.
Forgot to add tires at 10psi
Thanks again,
John

The reason I ask is that 4700 converter probably won't be too happy on the street. Very Happy

I never understood how a converter that will stall high under power wont work on the street............if the converter is efficient it does not take much rpm to get the car moving................I drive mine around the pits taking off i high gear and it just takes a little rpm to get it up to speed. It flashes to 6000 of the hose and 6400 on.........

Now trying to drive one 65 down the highway will work the converter harder due to the wind resistance etc...............put a big cooler on it. IMO if its more strip than street put the converter in it that makes it faster on the track............with todays converter technology there is no reason to not give it what it wants and not be able to cruise to the local drive in lol.

Jon,
Looks like you have some real good potential.

Did you dyno at Mark Small Machine in Westminster?

Gary, the engine was designed and built by Lem Evans and Phillip Oakley and then dyno'd at Automotive Machine and Performance of Philpot, KY.
Yes there is a lot left in there after I get used to the car and get the suspension working properly.
