64 comet engine swap

Post  nitrorock69 on December 12th 2011, 5:49 pm

I thinking about building a 460-514 for my 64 comet, over the summer I installed the Rod & Custom mustang II front suspension so there no shock towers anymore. I also updata the brakes ect..... my question is will 460 headers for a fairlane work on this? Also will the valve cover hit the master cyl?

I figured it would be the same as a falcon I didn't really know about the fairlane...

falcon and comets are the same I think untill 66,after that they went to the body style of the fairlanes.Check with comet east car club they would be able to tell for sure, alot of input over there just like from the fine people we have here on this site.Good Luck with your build

If the valve cover hits the MC,you can tilt it toward the driverside of the firewall and it should clear a tall valve cover. The M11 suspension should let the engine set low enough that it won't be necessary. The early Comet and Fairlane are the same chassis's.

64 Comet and Fairlane are not the same platform

Post  512Fairlane on December 19th 2011, 9:53 pm

1964 Comets do not share the 62-65 Fairlane platform. They had shock towers more similar to the Falcon or Mustang. You can check with Crites but their headers are usually designed for cars that still have the shock towers in them. I doubt those would clear a Mustang II crossmember (but I could be wrong).

Looks like it's a weld up set of headers, you could look into to a set of block huggers they might clear your frame rails

isn't the MII similar to a fox body suspension (using a rear sump pan)? If so maybe some BBF fox body headers will work. Try accufab, he might know.
