Motor Plates

Post  wheels123 on September 23rd 2009, 3:24 pm

I am swaping a 460/c-6 from a stock suspension car to a 10.5 ladder bar car. Both cars have a 9" but the stock suspension car has the 3rd member offset and the 10.5 car is centered. I thought that you wanted the side measurements as straight as possible?
I see that I too will have an issue with the headers unless i keep the motor higher in the car, What is to high?
Thanks

how to

Post  wheels123 on September 26th 2009, 8:54 am

What is the tech for getting the motor/trans straight with the rearend? It seems like a lot of people are just eyeballing, is this close enough?
I am starting the wiring of the new car, has anyone use the painless Drag Racing harness? Is it worth the cost?
Thanks

What kind of car are we talking about if it is a foxbody the you are going to have to do some work on the tran tunnel if you are going to run the motor center in the car. On the hieght what size tire are you running will help get you in the ball park Jason

swap

Post  wheels123 on September 26th 2009, 6:11 pm

They are both Fox body's. The donnor car is a 79 coupe stock suspension car (I am racing it now), the car I am swaping the drivetrain into is an 86 coupe 10.5 set up w/ ladder bars. Tires are 29.5x10.5 or 28x10.5 on 12" rims, have both tire sizes.
The 79 car is using motorplates and is as far back to the firewall as possible w/o alterations. What will have to be done to the tunnel to swap into 86 car?
Thanks

Money well spent on the Painless wiring kit. You won't regret it. Cool

the K&R wireing kit is what i used i had never done any wireing and is user friendly.the kit comes with everything to do the wireing except the battery cable wires.the wireing diagram is easy to use and if you need wireing info you can call them anytime.if you have done wireing befor and under stand what its all about im sure you can get by with a lesser expensive kit.

i would talk with skinnykid racing about the motorplates and what you are wanting to do.he is a verry knoladgeable person about motor locations and the use of his plates.

I agree with Larry, the K&R is another good one as well. Either way is good.

If a drag car is built with the housing pinion centered side-to-side in the car, the crank/trans centerline also needs to be centered side-to-side. And if the pinion is offset a given amount side-to-side, then the crank/trans centerline is offset the same amount side-to-side.
