QA1 Shock Issue Empty QA1 Shock Issue

Post  gdog May 24th 2012, 9:25 pm

We were starting to work on the car and I noticed that on one front shock the body of the shock was clear up in the shock tower. The other side was showing serveral inches of rod. Any ideas of what I need to look for?

thanks,

Gordon

Theoretically if both front shocks are exactly the same (body/shaft/travel lengths), and the top & bottom mounts are the same side to side, and the car is sitting level side to side, then there should be at/around the same amount of shock shaft showing each side.

I know that the front shocks of a 70 Ranchero (same as Torino???) & 69 Mustang I had weren't the same. The top mounts were different & I think the total travel might have been different between the two cars. The 71-73 Mustang had similar top mounts to the 70 Ranchero, but one had a shorter total shock length/travel than the other, (I think the Stang was shorter).

Thanks to all. I will get underneath it tonight to take a good look.
The car is on the level.
