Converter stall (Gas vs Alky)??? Empty Converter stall (Gas vs Alky)???

Post  Race Ready Fabrications Mon 18 Jun 2012 - 23:07

Ok here's the deal, got my new motor running and I started it and ran it twice with my gas 1050. Motor seemed under carbed so i bought an alky 1150 from Randy Moore. Plan has been all along to convert to alky just came a lil sooner than I expected.

On gas, converter went 5800 wide open on the brake. I just bolted the alky carb on and went racing. HOLY CRAP!!!! What a difference in torque.....can't keep tires on the thing now...lol. Made a few junk passes and went home. Got to talking with a buddy and he asked what the converter was stalling on alky....I didn't know, never thought to check it. He thought maybe it would loosen up maybe 2-300. Uh no.....goes 6800 wide open now. What the hell!! Is the alky making that much more torque? Was my gas tune that far off?

Current converter is a trans specialties 8"(yeh yeh I know) as soon as these two nickels I'm rubbing together turn into a grand ill order a converter from Lenny.

that's gota be B/S! gas is faster Rolling Eyes alky does add the tq but your converter could also have issues.when i changed to alky i did'nt see but 2-250 more on the stall and over a tenth in et.i know my gas carb was'nt a name brand so it could'a been better. Very Happy

With everything right 3-400 seems to be the norm, IMO an 8" has no place in a bb car.

I'm interested to see what happens to my stall after the switch. On gas it's at 4900/5000 on the transbrake. Might have to send it back to Lenny or use some Hyguard to tighten it up some.
