Help with nos surg
Ok we have a drag radial car with a small block. It is in a fox body. Not trying to do anything cutting edge here but can't seem to get it to work.Primary fuel system is alcohol terminater type set up.runs 6.20 on motor with a nos converter has gone 5.90 with a motor converter. It has a speed tec. two stage plate with -6 lines. with gasoline as fuel for nos. Has a A 2000 pump for nos alcohol is a belt pump. Basic tune is 82 nos 82 fuel have gone down as far 73 on gas jet before things got lean.We start out with 900 to 975 bottle pressure base timing is 34 deg. pull out 6 deg on nos.It has a 7AL3 Box with a power grid Msd gave us the hookup to make this work. The problem is the car surges any time the nos is on.This set up worked flawless on a big block that made about the same HP as the small block. We've tried all kinds of changes in timeing, new fuel pump, different rotor phase's.The power grid was added to try and help. It doesnt make any difference if you use one or two stages or one. All of the above changes effect the way the car runs the surging problem is a constant and does not seem to be effected at all by any thing we have done. I would be thankfull for any help.

Re: Help with nos surg
only thing that comes to mind is the hit of the nos will flash the converter harder and thus increase your pump speed, this could be making it go real fat. The smaller displacement may not tolerate this as easy as a bigger engine. does the inection have a high speed on it? what pump size? nozzel? and pill?
also is the cell for the inj in the front?

It dose have a high spped by pass noz 36 pill 145 has a # 1 pump. this is a DSR system not a rons. The other strange thing is when the bottle is at about 20lbs the surge ggets much worse I have 6 bottles and it is the same with all of them.

Id lean more towards what effect nos is having on the pump speed/alky tune side of it.

Re: Help with nos surg
Jon you got us on the right track. we had the high speed at 86 % we wound up at 62 % before the problem finally went away. Car responded with a 5.42 @ 132 on one stage Didn't use the second. Track was full and didn't get alot pass's to work with. Not too bad for a home built small block car on drag radials at 2950 lbs. Thanks for the help'you are da man! I'll give you shout when we get both stages on.

Re: Help with nos surg
seems like a lot of timing for a small block on 200-250hp worth of spray

Re: Help with nos surg
I know with alky in the mix you can get away with running more timing.
