A Great feeling today !!
I wanted to change the plugs today in the race car and Stephen asked if he could help ....... so i said no problem son ..... i removed all the wires for him and handed him the correct tools ....... he got all of them out except for the one by the brake master cylinder. I was very proud of him and he did a great job and also didnt even put a scratch on the fenders .... it was a nice father and son moment today .....

Thats pretty cool Nick..........
My daughter is finally starting to show some interest as well, this year she has really started to understand how all this works at the track.
I think this winter when we start getting the jr ready its gonna start sinking in that she is gonna be doing this for real soon.............
I talked to the painter about repainting the chassis, also the sign guy about doing a wrap on it. I need to get the motor off and get it patched up here soon as well.
I think we're gonna have a learn to pack the chute day here this weekend for the wife............and i'm talking about the one on back of the car for you perverts.............

Re: A Great feeling today !!
Glad to hear you are having some time like this with your son. It is a great feeling when your kids take an interest in your hobby. I have it in reverse, my father-in-law has a load of fun helping me on my truck, and I try to find something for him to do whenever I'm working on it. I highly doubt either of my daughters will take interest in the high performance mud drag hobby. Maybe some day, I hope. I do have lots of nephews though and hope to corrupt them properly though.

That's awesome Nick... My son used to do that all the time, then he became a teenager, started playing football, oh yeah, and discovered girls...

Yep... I thought I had him hook, line, and sinker when I took him for a 1/2 pass back in July... Buuuuut, them danged girls just keep cuttin' the line... When Rick (bbf-falcon) was here this spring, we told him that if he thought the girls liked football players, wait til they find out he's drivin' a drag car...

That's cool Nick!
Of my three kids only the oldest girl is interested. She is so busy with her professional life (lives in a different state) that I don't think we will ever have "That Race Team."
She took off time from work to fly out to the Pinks Race.
She's the middle girl in the pic! The other two are her friends..

Now just teach him to check the oil, tire pressure and bottle pressure and you're golden!

Nick,
That's good your sons helping you.It will be easier on your back when you get older having your son bend over the fender to change the plugs.
Les,
At least your daughter is interested in drag racing, not alot of girls are in to it.How have you been long time since i talked to you.
Later Mark.

Re: A Great feeling today !!
hoping to get my son more into it next summer. he is 6 and since i dont really have anything running yet. he would rather watch cartoons than car shows on tv.
though when i call the truck or tools mine, he is sure ready to correct me on that.

It's cool when you can get your kids involved in this stuff. Here's a couple of pics of my 11yr old son (10 @ time of pics) Dylan, helping me change the gear oil in rear end of my 97 Power Stroke this past spring..

Too Awesome!! My 12 year old doesn't show much interest but I have high hopes for Logan, he'll be 5 in March and ALWAYS wants to help. A few weeks ago he had his JD Tractor on blocks and said "Daddy, I'm fixin' the Mission"

Re: A Great feeling today !!
My racing addiction was in remission when my kids were growing up, so I got my boy a 3 wheel ATV when he was 4 and when he was 6 he won his 1st National and then a Modified 4 wheeler we built from a 60cc 2 stroke Motorcross bike, and he won 2 National meets w/it. He is 31 now and still rides dirt bikes. But he did drive my old Maverick a few times at TnT. His first pass ever in any car was a 6.35 at 107mph. Now he wants to Drive LiL Tweety. He still don't like to wrench on anything though. Just ride/drive.
Thats a deal though Nick

I also know the feeling Nick. I taught my Grandson to put a nut and bolt together when he wasn't quite 2. He's been wrenchin' on the 'Chero with me since he was 4. He helped mre pull it apart when I broke in Mission @ Mega Ford Weekend a couple weeks ago. He says..."We're sharing the Ranchero eh Grandpa!"

After a few passes in the banana wagon he'll be back on board, speed is right there with sex, as we all know! one or two depending on the track conditions, plus the Cool factor

copperhead,
Your son looks like he really knows what he's doing and having a good time. What's with the rusty rearend cover though the rest of the underneath is nice and clean and painted, must not see much salt down there.
Later Mark.
