My 1972 F100 Empty My 1972 F100

I thought I would write about the truck that is in my sig (the F100)

How it started...

To make a long story short, the girl I was dating at the time, her dad was junking a bunch of vehicles and crap they had piled up in a field behind their shop. There was a F250 with a 12' flatbed out there. I asked if I could have the engine and transmission out of it. So I wound up with a 460 and a C6 our of a 83 F250. (at the time I had planned to put it in another truck they were going to give me, but when I broke up with the guys daughter...as you can guess..no truck haha)

So FF a few months and I was looking for a F100. I had always liked the 60s and 70s trucks and thought one would be a good home for my engine. Came across a F100 with no engine or trans for $700. Talked the guy down to $500 and brought her home.

Then I started to re-work everything on it. The brake system has all new stuff. Even down to the steel brake lines. Replaced all shocks. Replaced both axle pivot bushings in the front.

Pulled the 9" rear end out. Rebuilt the brakes, sandblasted it. Then painted the entire thing with POR15. Same with the leaf springs. This is also when I found out that I had a nodular center section, and 31 spline shafts.

So then I started to tear down the 460 and that is when I found this...

Took the block to a shop to have the rusted up piston removed, and the block cleaned up and bored as needed. This took the place two months. During that time I did a few dumbass things. The biggest looking back was junking the C6 I had. (it would have fit right in the F100, but at the time I thought that the shift and kickdown rods on the side of the transmission could not be changed with a different type..so off it went. I did keep the shorter tail housing tho.) During the two months I had the engine at the shop I got tired of waiting on them and started looking for a second engine. To make another long story short, I picked up another 460, complete down to the starter, with C6 transmission for $150.
affraid

This is what I brought home.

Got the other block back. The result was that it had to be bored 30 over to get past the rust. (I left out a part above about 460 #1 not having a oil pan on it when it was in the F250..rod caps were off) The crank needed to be ground or replaced. Because of that I decided to go with 460 #2 and keep the other block as a back up.

Continued next post.

Current state of engine.

Has not changed much, other then adding a timing set.

Engine mounts out of a mid 70s F250 IIRC.

Yes I know I am missing a cross member, got to get a replacement at the junk yard.
The exhaust that is in the picture has been junked.

I had a goal of at least 450 hp.
Engine specs will be
460 with D3vE heads
Crane Cam 288/292 adv. duration 522/530 lift
750 Holly
Edelbrock Performer intake
Headers
Flat top pistons
3G Alternator upgrade
Re-Curved Duraspark distributor. Duraspark ignition.

Body work.
The floor of the bed is rusted out. There are a few bad spots on the hood also. But other then that and the passenger door. That is the worst of it. I am toying with the idea of putting in a wood floor for the bed like you would see in a step side bed. Or just replace the bed with one that is in better shape.

The interior is pretty good considering the age of the truck. The seat was reupholstered not too long before I bought the truck. Needs a new dash pad and weather stripping all around.

Old passenger door.

Pretty much all I have for now. Wonder what you all think about my project. Cool
