Ok ..... So I pulled the Cleveland out and decided to build a legal NHRA Stock Eliminator car......

Got Randy Malick at RM Competion helping me with the heads, induction and valve train. Sending the 5 speed to liberty for some upgrades and face plating...... And looking at one of those fangled soft lock clutches...

Yeah Randy's quite the sneaky guy when it comes to finding the grey area in the rules. And doing it on the low down He is rather innovative.

Yep....The rules say how far you can open a valve...but they don't say for how long. Suspect

Making progress on this project, short block is almost complete.

Waiting for Randy to finish the heads.

Trying to decide which trans to get.... DR4 or G-Force.....

Cool Are you putting the lightweight factory package on it too, while you are waiting on the heads? Twisted Evil

Never seen one, got minimum weights the the car is required to hit.

Remove the power windows and locks, gut or remove the heater/AC box, take all the sound deadner out, under carpet, under the headliner, remove all extra wiring. Then put the weight where you want it. Plenty of places to get rid of weight.

^^^ Like jeffgfg said, basically removing all optional equipment leaving you with a base unit. I am not sure if your class will allow removal of the heater box and sound deadening material, but the optional equipment in 86 was; power windows, power locks, cruise control, A/C, Premium sound system (5-speakers + EQ VS 3-speakers no EQ), interior light decor group (courtesy door lights/console lights), rear window defrost. Removing any of these optional items you may have including the wiring, switches, lights, brackets. pumps etc. that they come with. The GT package did include items like tilt, full gauges, console, vanity mirrors. Ideally coming in under the minimum weight and adding it back where you want it to be. If your class does allow additional removal of non essential components, then wiper motors, sound deadening materials, and basically anything they do not mandate should either come off or be replaced with a lighter one.

As to the trans, I know a few lead sleds that have had good luck with the Jerico, but maybe some of the transmission guy will weigh in on that.

Looking at transmissions and clutch setups

A legal short block is complete, waiting on Randy for the heads.

I need to get some gears and a spool too.

Ended up buying a Richmond 5 speed off Wayne

As for the clutch it's an Ace slipper deal. It's being built as we speak should have it in a month or two.

Not sure on the rpm yet I have a few ideas but I have never played with such a shitty intake and a valve train like this. This thing is a lot different than a full boogie race engine.
