trailer tires again

whats errbody doing for load range e 16'' trailer tires these days.has the quality gotten any better or prices.im needing 6 for my rig and want to do it right. are the good year marathons still junk? every thing still made in china?

I have 3 happy seasons of long trips with my BF Goodrich 
LT235/85R16E Commercial T/A tires.
Load range E. Twin axle trailer....about 9300#....70 to 75mph.
Not cheap, but working good.

Keith do you know if they have that tire in a 15"?

I just looked their web site. Looks like the Commercial T/A is 16" only

So I called my racing buddy, Super Street Jegs Allstar Champ, Mike Griggs who owns Ocala Tire in Ocala Fl for his favorites.
For the 15" he likes the Maxxis 10 ply.
For the 16" he favors the Yokohama Geolandar HT/S. Also a 10 ply with a 3 ply sidewall. I have a set of those on my F350 and they are great.
Mike might chime in, since he snoop our forum occasionally.

If you are looking for a 15" tire, Maxxis seems to be the best available. Make sure it is a 10 ply though. If you have 6 lug wheels, you can get 16x6 inch wheels to upgrade to 16 inch tires. Getting a light truck tire on your trailer is one of the best investments you can make. if you can get 16 inch tires look for a tire with a 3 ply sidewall. Even though it is a 10 ply tire, most of your tires only have 2 ply sidewall. Yokohama Geolander HT/S, Maxxis commercial LT, Heritage Trail Trac CLT all have a 3 ply sidewall in the LT2358516 size. I have the trailer tire size 205/75-15 maxxis only has 205/75-15 8ply available.truth is I would be happy to get away from the pos tires they put on the trailers.

how is the ware on these tires? oem tires seem to ware on the inside 50 psi is what they recomend.trailer has 2-3500lbs axels =7000lbs load and im no were that load maybe 4500 at best.

I sold the Goodyear marathons and had them on my Triaxle enclosed at one time. They are junk imo. They are bad about the tread just peeling away from them. I've had Denman on my trailer for awhile,but they are now out of business. Listen to Mike,he is giving good info.

My trailer 24 ft enclosed, had small tires and narrow rims on it I think they were 5 in wide and 15s. I stepped up to an aluminum 8 inch rim and a 225/75/16 10 ply tire (Iron Man) Q speed rated E load rated. I have had them on my trailer for several years now with no blow outs.

I can't remember what was on it before, but I blew a tire on about every trip I made on the interstate in the summer. Also the trailer never sways and tracks right behind the truck, don't even know it's back there.

Yea,I never understood why they installed such small thin walled tires on some of the 24' -28' enclosed.

no matter what size you get you should get ST tires they are Special Trailers for the side wall flex and yes it does matter.......

I wish I could fit the 235 85 16's I just don't have the room. You would think that some other tire manufacturer would have a quality trailer tire out there

Yeah...my trailer with 5200#axles originally came with 15" wheels.
Mine barely had clearance for the 16" upgrade.

Mine barly had enough either but was worth the effort to figure it out and get them on there .....

If your serious about them lasting shipshe welding in Shipshewana sells 17.5 inch rims with 215/70/17.5 tires that are lo pros and small. They are H rated (#5840) 18 ply and will literally last forever. I have them on my 53 footer. They are the same size as a 215/75/16. The rims cam have a 6, 8, or 10 bolt pattern.  They are a tad heavy but will rot before you wear them out. You can get the tire in michellin, cooper, or Double Coin brand. Theyre around 225 per tire.

Can you put a 6 lug hub on a 5 lug axle?

I belive the spindle is different.
Might need to call Dexter on that one.
