Ok life finally got out of the way and I could do a compression test and a leak down test on the motor.
Here are the numbers that I came up with all do the compression numbers first followed by the leak done numbers,
Cyl 1 137 5%
Cyl 2 155 8% air in to valve cover
Cyl 3 145 5%
Cyl 4 150 8%
Cyl 5 140 5% air in to valve cover
Cyl 6 130 5% air into valve cover
Cyl 7 140 5%
Cyl 8 145 2%

The numbers don’t look the best but not bad either I figured that my compression numbers should have been better. What should I be looking for when I start to tear it down.

When in doubt tear it down !! If every thing looks good , nice clean smooth cylinder walls - put a new set of rings in it WITHOUT honing as the last set of rings just trued up the cylinder walls , put new rings in - the leak numbers will drop in half . I've done it many times . and I was pretty skeptical the first time I was told to do this by RMRE

X-2 and I would also check valve guides for play, and hand lap the valves in too

if you have someone that knows what they are doing you don't have to hand lap valves

my machinist lives in the trailer park so I always lap them in
