With the high Seat pressure on today's solid roller camshafts what type of Roller Rockers are people using, beside the shaft mount.

300lbs on the seat or more?

Comp
Crane
Crower
Lunati

Steel or Aluminum

Rocker Arms Empty Rockers

Post  Mark Laczo November 19th 2009, 10:34 am

PFC (Bret Powell) has been running the Aluminum Scorpions at around 300lbs seat and mid-high 800lbs open with good results on a pulling truck, maybe he will chime in here on this. I was going to use the Comp stainless steel but I do have a set of the Scorpions and they claim they are good to 900lbs open pressure with a lifetime warranty. My spring pressures are going to be close to 300 on the seat and over 800 open with the Comp 947 triples. I also need to make a decision on which route to go by spring LOL.

The stainless Crowers, have less moving mass than a comparable aluminum rocker. Most of the weight is in the fulcrum and the ends are very slender and light. The Crowers can be had in several Ford specific ratios also, 1.73, 1.75, and 1.8. They are a few hundred dollars more, but IMHO they are worth it. Cool

I have the scorpion roller rockers & after about five years of hard running they had roller tip problems. I sent them back & with no questions asked they sent me a new set. The company stands behind there products & truly does have a lifetime warranty.

The Scorpions have worked good. RIght at 300 on the seat, 900 open. Turned it 8500 five times (I think) on the track and 8100 on the dyno numerous times. We did not get a whole lot of time on this deal but all seemed okay. We have not pulled anything apart since season finished. I would do buy them again. Good rocker, especially considering cost and customer service. Do not assume the GM version 1.8 will work... it is not right for a Ford. They sent me one free of charge to try.

The Comp stainless have a less than desireable roller placement on the valve (My guess is they were/are BBC). Maybe they've changed since I tried them.

The verdict is still out on some of the newer players in the rockerarm market ....only time will tell...it aint all about can you break them in 40-50 shots . Phillip Oakley put 35 hits on his engine at Gateway [3 day event] in one weekend . I hope the news is still good after 200 shots....that's the durablity test i.m.o.
