Is this real?? Everything I read about the 289 K code engine says "parts weren't marked with an K". That you have to open up the motor to see the true K code things.

Well I came across this intake last night and the guy says it's an K code 289 intake manifold. Ok guys fire away!

Notice the K under the casting letter B

This is what I found, and that the only ones that had a special aluminum high rise intake came in the Shelby GT 350's.

"The HP came with a perfectly ordinary cast iron 4V intake - the exact same one used on the plain old 4V engine".

K code was the engine number in the vin that denoted hipo 289, no k in the engine castings.

Special parts in the 271 hp hipo engines

Block with thicker caps
Hardness tested crank
External counterweight (like external D9 460 hatchet)
Bigger rod bolts (same rods where used on later boss 302)
Heads with cast in spring cups and screw in studs
Heavier springs and a solid lifter cam.
High flow exhaust manifolds.
Dual point distributor

The 306 hp Shelby engines cam with a hotter cam, aluminum intake, tri y headers and a Holley carb.

Their where also some made with 2x4s, webers and even a Paxton supercharged version

I could be missing some stuff but thats what I have from memory

I had a 64 fairlane w/271 hipo, engine had all the things Dave mentioned but I don't remember it having a hatchet, just a wide/thick balancer.

FWIW I have to agree with the comments, but although part number rarity (value) is not there, as I recall all of the 4-bbl intake manifolds were all cast the same, there were no improvements made to the 289 Hi-po intakes (same casting different part#).

i would think a c8 intake like that would be a little harder to find. Question

Another interesting side note about the cylinder heads is they did not have pushrod guide plates. Ford used close-tolerance slots in the head castings to guide the pushrods.
