oil pump block gasket Empty oil pump block gasket

YA or NA !! Back when I run a pump in the pan I never used one -always sanded the foot flat and torqued to 45 ft/lbs .I run all dry sump motor so this question is not for me ! back in the '70's always sanded the foot of the oil pump and never used an gasket pump to block and never had a oiling failure because df it . OPTIONS????

That gasket is there because some blocks are rough or not completely flat in that mounting area.
If the block is flat and smooth there is no need for that gasket; just use a small amount of Hylomar type sealant; (a long time ago I used to use Number 2 Permatex from the tube).
