SCJ bowl ported potential Empty SCJ bowl ported potential

Post  86 coupe January 25th 2010, 6:28 pm

was wondering about the flow and horsepower potential of a set of scj heads with a good bowl port and gasket match. engine is a 545 with 11.7 compression victor/ with dommy and a roller cam. have started the parts buying process and am already commited to this combo but really would like some outside opinions.

thanks craig

Only way to know what they flow is to flow them. Depending upon who did the work, they could be good or not so good... Just making things "big" isn't the answer.

YEA ... 11.7/1 is about useless.
To high for gas at the pump and not enough for race gas ... I guess you could mix it.

IF the bowl porting is done correctly then there is more than 350 CFM at only .500" valve lift and around 370 CFM maximum on the intake with about 220 CFM maximum on the exhaust side.

thanks the compression is a compromise, the motor will get a 200 shot after the chassis is sorted out and i don't want it too high because of my limited tuneing ability

The SCJ's respond to bowl porting better than any heads I have ported,, ,,,, ( except for the Pro-Comps ) Embarassed Can't believe I posted that.

Also to add to what Randy M said, that max intake flow number will be around .570 lift also.

SCJ bowl ported potential Empty To CJ or not to CJ, is that the super question?

Post  LivermoreDave January 25th 2010, 9:47 pm

Just a thought! Lem what did those cast iron CJ heads of David Morehead flow that performed so well?

Dave.

Not as good as was thought after it was found to have NOS plumbed under the tunnel ram . I'd guess that may have something to do with the split cyl. walls and the cracked Byrant crankshaft.....NOS is free power you know...you just gotta buy the parts Smile

first of all if you have a limited tuning ability, you should be asking yourself one Question, should you be building an engine and racing it????? Because Tuning is 75% of it after you build it or Have it built then you have to have some kind of Idea what you are doing or Boom you detonate it or what ever and all the rods hang out the bottom of the Block.....
so I would suggest getting a book or with someone and learning how to tune an engine.... really fast.... affraid

You can still run Nitrous with more compression Idea

If you bump up the compression to 13-ish to 1 then you may not want or need Nitrous What a Face
