Any interest in 429-460 oil pan flange clamps ? (possible new product)

Post  83-88T-Bird Guy on March 4th 2010, 3:37 pm

This thread is to see if there is any interest in flange clamps for the 460 oil pan rails.
I know Ford made some out of flat stock for the F.I. 460's in the late 80's and thru the 90's. Supply of those are dwindling tho.

I made a prototype set as shown in the pics. The first thing most people will notice is that every other bolt is missing. All of those bolts are not needed as the clamps helps to distribute the clamping pressure more evenly throughout the length of the pan. They will fit OEM and aftermarket pans.

We have been making these flange clamps to fit valve covers for the Buick and Pontiac guys for awhile now, and we thought we would try the oil pan rails.

* The neccessary longer bolts will be furnished with the clamps.
* Pricing would probably be $ 29.50 per set with a primer coated (ready to paint) finish.
* Not sure about the powdercoated versions. (I will have to check with our powdercater on cost)

Since this is a die hard 429-460 based site, I figured the opinions of the board members would be a good gauge as to whether a product like this is needed.

This set will go to Rick Brown for testing. Very Happy ( since he was the first to request a set)

How do you fit the 'other' missing bolt on there? It looks like there is no room left for the bolt head without interfering with your deal.

Jason:
The reason there were so many bolts from the factory is because the flange was thin and warped easy.
These flange clamps spread out the clamping pressure more evenly, so all of the factory pan bolts are not necessary now.

I guess I could add all of the bolt clips on the clamps, but it would run the cost up. (plus the cost of adding more bolts in the kits)

Hopes this answers your question.

Alan, I will be using these on my new A460 block/pan when it's done. But, in the mean time I will try them out on (GoinPostal's) new engine. I will give you all my honest opinion. Thanks again Alan Wink
